Summary
At the M&M show in Phoenix/AZ, Olympus Soft Imaging Solutions (OSIS) and ResAlta presented a new 5.3 Megapixel bottom-mounted TEM camera: TENGRA. The TENGRA completes OSIS’s line-up of fast bottom on-axis cameras, alongside the successful KeenView G2 and Quemesa.

Description Specifications
The TENGRA combines high resolution, high sensitivity, superior contrast, and a large field of view. This makes the TENGRA the ideal choice for all materials and life science applications. With supreme image quality, high frame rates, fast navigation tools and various saving options, the camera meets the highest quality demands and covers all market needs, making it the complete solution for state-of-the-art TEM imaging.
The TENGRA camera comes with a 2:1 fiber-optical taper, resulting in an effective pixel size of 18 µm². A highly efficient conversion rate with an optimized electronic design delivers a near perfect signal-to-noise ratio. The fast interline CCD chip provides a 2304 x 2304 square pixel resolution, resulting in a field of view of 41.5 mm x 41.5 mm, close to the size of a conventional photo plate. 
CCD Chip
The highly sensitive and fast interline CCD chip provides 2304 x 2304 pixel resolution with 14-bit dynamic range, a full well capacity of over 60,000 electrons and antiblooming of at least 100x.
Binning – Flexible speed and sensitivity
The Tengra supports several binning modes: binning 2, 3, and 4. Using the binning mode means increasing the frame rates and sensitivity. Binning for allows acquisition with up to 12 frames per second (depending on exposure time)
Read-out modes: fast and variable frame rates
Tengra’s very fast single port read-out supports high frame rates of more than 12 fps, making it much more convenient to scan and focus on the PC monitor. The use of single port readout ensures a homogeneous CCD response over the whole readout area. Even when in the highest quality mode (full resolution) the camera provides more than 2 fps. This camera provides superb dynamic range and sensitivity no matter which resolution mode is employed.
Dedicated cooling system
The CCD chip of the Tengra is Peltier-cooled and stabilized at a temperature of 15°C.
Tapered fiber-optical coupling
The 2:1 fiber-optical taper provides the highest quality. This increases effective pixel size to 18µm x 18µm. In combination with the optimized scintillator thickness, this ensures optimal resolution and sensitivity.
High sensitivity
Due to highly efficient conversion of primary electrons in the scintillator and optimized electronics design, the Tengra system gains a near perfect signal-to-noise ratio, resulting in very high sensitivity. This enables you to view your samples on your monitor at beam intensities so low it would normally prevent seeing an image on the TEM viewing screen. The finest detail is still shown perfectly in the camera image.
Real-time functions
Integration of the Tengra with iTEM, Olympus Soft Imaging Solutions TEM imaging platform, ensures Real-Time shading correction, intensity histograms, auto contrast adjustment and Real-Time Fast Fourier Transformations during image acquisition.
Software integration
The Tengra is completely integrated with iTEM, Olympus Soft Imaging Solutions’ TEM imaging platform. This guarantees numerous real-time functions such as real-time shading correction, real-time gray-value histograms, automatic contrast enhancement as well as Fast Fourier Transformation during live image acquisition. Furthermore, iTEM offers functions such as image labeling, image processing, archiving, analysis and report generation. Print-outs in photo quality can be made mere seconds after acquisition.
