The highly sensitive 2/3” interline CCD image sensor used in the KeenViewG2 provides a resolution of 1376 x 1032 pixels at 14-bit dynamic range. The pixel size of the CCD chip is 6.45 x 6.45 μm2 (effectively 23.5 x 23.5 μm2). Minimizing power consumption has made active camera cooling superfluous.
Several binning modes are supported by KeenViewG2. The users can select between modes of 2x, 4x and 8x binning. This means sensitivity can be increased even more.
The KeenViewG2 supports frame rates of more than 25 images per second at binning 2 and of 15 images per second at full resolution. This high frame rate is ideal for locating suitable sample segments directly onscreen.
Noise is generally introduced if the CCD chip is not cooled to a sufficiently low tem-perature, known as “dark current”. This thermal noise is not a problem with the KeenViewG2 due to a sophisticated Peltier-cooling system which regulates the tem¬perature of the CCD chip at 10° C (@ 25° C ambient temperature).
The KeenViewG2 offers exposure times ranging from 100 μs to 160 s. This is a fundamental prerequisite for being able to acquire images of either intense illumination or of very low intensity.
The KeenViewG2 camera system couples the electron-sensitive layer (scintillator) with the CCD chip using unique fiber optics (tapered). This innovative approach provides the user with a welcome price/performance advantage. In conjunction with the highly sensitive CCD chip and the optimized scintillator, this ensures high sensitivity and efficiency.
The KeenViewG2 uses a dedicated high-sensitivity phosphor scintillator. In order to match customers’ individual demands, various scintillators can be customized for several accelerating voltages and applications.
The CCD chip architecture guarantees high anti-blooming. Individual pixels are clearly distinguished. In conjunction with the extremely short exposure times, this optimizes the acquisition of diffraction images.
Installing the KeenViewG2 is simple and straightforward. No additional water cooling and no other modifications at the TEM are necessary to set up the camera system. X-ray safety is guaranteed by the camera housing for up to 300 KeV.
Integration of the KeenViewG2 with iTEM, Olympus Soft Imaging Solutions TEM imaging
platform, ensures Real-Time shading correction, intensity histograms, auto contrast adjustment and Real-Time Fast Fourier Transformations during image acquisition.
Furthermore, the integration of the camera with iTEM provides professional functions such as autofocus, labeling, processing, archiving, analyzing and report generation. Photographic quality printouts can be obtained virtually in seconds after acquisition – without the darkroom.
